ALBO VINCENT, M.D. OF PROVIDEN...

ALBO VINCENT, M.D. Of Providence Point, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, age 85, on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. The beloved husband of Kathryn Albo; and a true hero to his children, Hettie Backes, Vincent and Michael Albo; as well as his five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, Dr. Albo was a physician specializing in pediatric hematology/oncology. He was a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a senior pediatric staff member at both the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Magee Women's Hospital. His professional devotion rested simply in caring for his young patients. In addition to his clinical practice, he fostered his devotion by staying energetically engaged in the organizations developing and validating the protocols instrumental to the dynamic increase in the survival rate of young cancer patients over the course of his career. From 1983 to 1985, he served on the Board of Directors of the Leukemia Society of Pittsburgh. Dr. Albo brought the National Cancer Institute's Children's Cancer Study Group to Pittsburgh and was the principal investigator until 1993. He was pivotal in bringing both the Ronald McDonald House and Make-A-Wish to Pittsburgh and served a term as President of the Ronald McDonald House. He was the Assistant Medical Director and sat on the Board of Directors at the Central Blood Bank. He served as a member of the Medical Advisory Committee for both the Central Blood Bank the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2006, he was honored as one of the Mt. Lebanon High School's Great Alumni Awardees. Devoted to his family and friends, he found great pride in being the founding father of the Main Entrance Ski Society (MESS). The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities, 451 44th Street, Penthouse Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15201, or the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, note “Class of 1955 Alumni Scholarship Endowment” Medical Arts Building, Suite 302, 3708 Fifth Ave., 15213 (412-647-3792).
