MANGANAS NICHOLAS Age 85, of Canonsburg, passed away December 8, 2015, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Eugenia Manganas; loved, admired and idolized father of six children, John (Rita), Chris (John) Liokareas, Andrew (Amy Lieb), Irene Lang (James Lieb), Angela (Panteli) Athanas and the late Tom (Toni) Manganas; surviving are 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren; he is also survived and revered by nephews and nieces, children of his late sister, Angela (Theodore) Papaloizos and late brother Thomas (Eugenia) Manganas; brother-in-law of Nicholas Kalafatis and Robert Kalafatis. He was born December 27, 1929, in Oinoussai, Greece to the late John and Chrysanthi Manganas. With his mother, sister and brother at age 12, he spent three years as a refugee of WWII in Cyprus before immigrating to America in 1947, where he first met his father at age 17. And later in 1952, married Eugenia Kalafatis his wife of 60 years. Nick was the founder and owner of Manganas Painting Company, Inc., a legendary entrepreneur in the business, his work projects extended throughout the U.S. and he was respected as an iconic figure among the professional community. He was well known throughout Pittsburgh for painting many of the bridges and industrial power plants. Nick was a brilliant poker and pinochle player. He loved the Pittsburgh sports teams and looked forward to having his family gather around him for every game. For 30 years, Nick enjoyed much of his time in a second home at New Port Richey, FL and his happiest days were when he and his wife, Papou and Grams had it filled with the excitement of their family vacationing with them. His presence, his love and his stature as a role model will be missed dearly by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317. Trisagion Service Thursday at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be Friday at 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church with interment to follow.
