YOUNG Sr. MURIEL, CDP Age 91, of McCandless Township, died peacefully, on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Providence Heights. Sr. Muriel was born June 6, 1924, in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on September 8, 1940. Throughout the next 76 years she faithfully and joyfully served God and others as teacher, principal and supervisor in the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Sr. Muriel was an elementary principal at St. Anne's in Castle Shannon and St. Basil's in Carrick. She presented workshops in catechetic, curriculum and staff development. Sr. Muriel produced several publications for teachers and has written for the Laidlaw, Merrill and Macmillan Book Companies. Sr. Muriel served in her later years in Prayer Ministry at Providence Heights. She received a bachelor of education from Duquesne University and an M.A. from Catholic University of America. Sister Muriel was always committed to the goals of Catholic education, to academic excellence and to the Diocesan focus of "New Beginnings." Sr. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, John James Young and Mary C. Kappler Young; and three sisters, Mary Young Fister, Sr. Bernadette Young and Joanne Zucal. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Providence Heights on Sunday from 1-8 p.m. with wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation on Monday from 12-3 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:30 p.m. at Divine Providence Chapel, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101.
